hburgnews.com was started in July 2006 as a way for the online community of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County to stay informed and exchange information. It was originally inspired by other community news blogs, like Waldo Jaquith’s cvillenews.com.

• finnegan. Brent Finnegan is a filmmaker who started hburgnews.com in 2006. An independent progressive politico, Brent currently works at JMU, collaborating on social media projects.
• Thanh. Thanh is a resident of Harrisonburg and employed by the City of Harrisonburg. She is a self proclaimed tree hugger with strong interests in issues related to the environment and healthy communities.
• Renee. Renee Parilak has lived in northwest Harrisonburg since graduating from JMU in 2004. She co-owns local software company Neosentials, Inc., and often works with JMU professors, Harrisonburg businesses, and local non-profit organizations. Being a “news junkie”, Renee is excited to be blogging and “twittering” for hburgnews!
• JGFitzgerald. Joe Fitzgerald is a former mayor of Harrisonburg and a former city editor at the DNR.
• Jeremy Aldrich. Jeremy Aldrich is a middle school teacher in Harrisonburg who is into blogging (on this site and elsewhere) and is passionate about immigration issues.
• DebSF. Deb Fitzgerald has lived in H’burg since 1985, teaches economics and statistics locally at the college level, and has been a news and political junkie most of her life.
• Emmy. Emmy Smith is a mother, Harrisonburg native, technical writer, and is passionate about race and human rights issues.
