Hburg Happenings – Early August

Brent Finnegan -- July 31st, 2006

A few things worth mentioning…

Recently the city council decided to change meeting times. They are now on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. The meetings are open to the public.

If you want to buy tickets for Court Square Theater events in advance (without paying a service charge), pretty soon you’ll have to get them from the Arts Council building. They’re moving their daytime box office operations to the relocated Smith House, on S Main near the quilt museum and Hardesty House. You can still get advance tickets online or by phone… And speaking of the Arts Council, they’re looking for a new exectutive director.

Wordplay, a documentary about crosswords, is playing at the Court Square Theater August 3 – 6.

Friday the 4th, Downtown Wine and Gormet on Water street is having a wine tasting from 4 – 7… Also at 7, Tom Principato performs on the court square lawn… Or, if you like live country, Cedar Creek is playing at the Pub.

On the 5th, Massanutten is hosting the Great Eastern Blues Festival… Or, if blues ain’t your thing, Aggrocrag, Time of Cholera, Lex Vegas, and Disaster in Alcatraz are playing at Captain Tees.

For the pool sharks (and mostly the pool shark wannabes) Gold Crown Billiards is having a 9-ball tournament on the 7th at 7:00.

August 9 Rubber Band is playing Fundfest (in the lot across from the DNR) to benefit the local SPCA.

Hollywood classic Charade is playing on the court square lawn around 8:30 August 11. Bring your blanket and pillow.

Lonesome Jim, starring Casey Affleck and Liv Tyler, plays at the Court Square Theater the 11th through the 15th.
