construction at the new school complex

Brent Finnegan -- August 26th, 2006

School officials broke ground at the new middle/elementary school complex today. Neilsen has the contract.

That side of town is going to get a lot more attention and traffic, with the new school, the Smithland Road extention, and the new shopping center going in near the intersection of Linda Lane and Country Club Road. Residents of that area seem resigned to the construction (according to the DNR, anyway).

A few weeks back, there were some legal issues regarding the purchase of the property, because the company that owned it, Sierra Development, wanted $2.6 mil for the land, and the city had it appraised at $1 mil. The land was seized by the city via eminent domain. But the city decided to go ahead and pay the Sierra’s price in order to move things along and avoid courtroom drudgery.
