November election reminder

Brent Finnegan -- September 25th, 2006

General elections are being held in Virginia on November 7 (that’s a Tuesday). You should probably be familiar with who is running for office, what will be on the ballot (there are three proposed amendments to the state constitution), and what precinct you’re registered in.

The last day to register to vote is October 10. You can register a number of ways. You can go to the local registrar’s office. You can register online. And recently, former governor Mark Warner launched a campaign to get people to register by using their cell phones via Mobile/TxtVoter.

If you think that the Valley doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, you should read this post on the AFP Forum. In it, Senator George Allen states, “This is one of the key strongest areas for me. When I was running for governor and running for the U.S. Senate, Augusta and Rockingham were either number one or number two. So it is very important.” Governor Tim Kaine said, “I didn’t win a lot of communities in the Valley – but I won Staunton, won a couple of others. So it’s really important to be over here campaigning.”

Hburgnews is not endorsing any candidate, but I would suggest that you do your own research and make sure you’re registered to vote in H’burg or in Rockingham.
