Last week the Republican transportation plan was shot down in the Senate. I didn’t post about it, because the plan had little to do with Harrisonburg or Rockingham.
But since Emmett Hanger is one of the Republican senators who voted against the plan, and a lot of Valley conservatives already don’t like his moderate voting record, it lends more credence to the Sime/Sayre challenge (Hanger’s district starts at the southeastern city limits). Already there is talk of ousting John Chichester for the same reason.
This power struggle between moderate and conservative VA Republicans — coupled with the fact that they look bad because this is the second year they failed to pass a transportation solution — means great things for state Democrats. GOPHokie explains why.
