alleyway work to begin (finally)
Brent Finnegan -- October 12th, 2007
That downtown alleyway that’s been closed for the last year-and-a-half (the one we’ve been tracking on hburgnews since July 2006) is due to start construction. As David posted over a month ago, all parties were waiting for a signed version of a contract. A reliable source tells me that everything has been signed.* Construction should commence shortly, before it gets too cold.
*10/13 UPDATE: According to today’s DNR, not everyone has signed.

I’m truly hoping that Verizon will finish (over a year late) burying their lines so that the crane work can be done out of the Denton lot instead of Water Street (the fewer closings the better).
I’ll believe it when i see it.
from the DNR: contracts signed, work set to begin next week.
Like I commented on the DNR, why does the City Manager start off saying the repair company could start work as early as Monday, then say it may start within a week to 10 days.
Haven’t you noticed? The alley has been open to foot traffic for weeks; the only remaining hazard is a board you have to climb over. I thought they were almost done with the project.

Because the beams that are required for the project are uncommon (for production) and may be obtained sooner, or later.
The reporter would do well to explain…I thought ya’ll were getting even more of the run around.
I promise to shop/stop/buy more downtown….as soon as I can escape this place on Saturdays.
Thanks for the info.
