one and only NBC station?

Brent Finnegan -- October 23rd, 2007

If you have cable, chances are you get NBC 29 out of Charlottesville, as well as NBC 12 out of Richmond, and/or NBC 4 from DC.

NBC 29 is working to change that. According to a report on WSVA, NBC 29 is asking the Federal Communications Commission to remove the Richmond and Washington DC NBC affiliates from cable systems including Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. FCC regulations allow stations to request removal of duplicate affiliates if viewership of the outside stations is insignificant.

When we got our notification from Comcast about the last raise in rates, they are now offering us TWO more HD channels of, guess what, NBC.

Ch. 698 NBC WSLS and Ch. 699 NBC WRC.
Add that to Ch. 702 WWBT NBC.

I can’t wait till a la carte cable.

  2. Phil C. says:

Nothing insignificant about the number of viewers watching NBC 4. Lil’ ol’ Ch. 29 will lose this one.

  3. Dave Briggman says:

Actually, they are likely not to lose this…when WHSV wanted sole access on cable systems in northwestern Virginia, WJLA/Albritton Communications found TV-3 —— and WJLA lost.

  4. Phil C. says:

When was this…I haven’t had cable in a few years, but when I lived in Woodstock, we had both WHSV and WJLA.

Living where I live now (Strasburg), I like the local coverage I get on NBC 25 out of Hagerstown on Dish Network. They cover Frederick and Shenandoah County better than WHSV ever had until they established TV-3 in Winchester.
