define animal testing
Brent Finnegan -- November 12th, 2007
There’s a story in the DNR today that I haven’t seen or heard much discussion about. Governor Kaine will be in town this Wednesday to dedicate the new Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Animal Lab on Mount Clinton Pike. The new animal lab takes the place of the old lab on Reservoir.
From the DNR:
The new lab allows for a greater range of testing, including the powder form of anthrax, foreign animal diseases, and West Nile Virus, according to the department.
The article also states that the new lab “has preformed an necropsy on an adult Angus bull.” But it’s unclear from the article whether VDACS also tests these diseases on healthy animals, or whether they merely test and diagnose already sick or dead animals. Anyone know the answer to that?
According to the VDACS website, “Our veterinarians and field inspectors also work with local officials in the investigations of animal cruelty cases.” So, it sounds to me like the organization that tests the animals also investigates animal cruelty cases.
What exactly goes on inside that lab?

I bet it has a fully stocked kitchen.
Lab Report:
” The specimen has excellent striping, exhibiting signs of post mortem thermal tissue damage. Cause of death appears to be a single blow to the anterior region of the skull. “
28 days later starts here. I can already hear the music in my head.
thanks for posting this. i dunno, it looks like they don’t do product testing but this article doesn’t really reveal too much. i’d like to know more.
What will become of the building at the old location?
