WSJ on Goodlatte
posted by Brent FinneganA reader emailed me this editorial about the farm bill, from yesterday’s Wall Street Journal:
… full-time farmers will be able to earn up to $1 million per farm ($2 million for a married couple) and still be eligible for a USDA handout. That means you can be in the top 0.2% in income in the U.S. and still get a subsidy check from Uncle Sam. Yet Robert Goodlatte of Virginia, the Republican who helped craft the House bill, says with a straight face that the bill is “real reform and a real safety net for the farmer.” Yes, thank heavens for that millionaire safety net.

I hear this so much from small farmers. Those that need our a hand-up are left behind.

We don’t need a hand up…we need the government to keep their hands off.
All we need is for them to make a level- playing field and make sure that other countries who ship their stuff here have the same safety standards.
They also need to quit this ethanol crap. It takes 1.5 gallons of fossil fuels to make 1 gallon of ethanol…and that doesn’t even count what it takes to ship it to the pumps.
OPEC can simply cut production to more than make up for our pidly attempts at ethanol.
We need to drill for our own oil….
