Attention, fans of The Onion: April Fool’s Day is here a little early this year. hburgnews.com contributor Gxeremio recently started Crocktown.com, a satirical local news blog. JGFitzgerald and I will be contributing occasionally.

    Are you being satirical ? ! ?

  2. Deb SF says:

Any chance a prayer to St. Patrick will get comments enabled at Crocktown?

Genius idea, Gxeremio, laugh-out-loud funny. Kudos!!!!!!!

  3. Gxeremio says:

Mercy me! A passing troupe of leprechauns has fulfilled your St. Patty’s Day prayer and enabled comments.

  4. Emmy says:

    This is fantastic!!!

  5. Mike says:

Wow. I love this site already. Great job so far.

  6. Justin says:

I don’t know if it’s because I get all the jokes, but that’s some of the funniest stuff I’ve read all week. And being Monday doesn’t have anything to do with it. :)

Keep it up guys. It’s great. The East Rockingham thing is comedy gold.

    Consider it RSS feed’ed

  7. David Troyer says:

    Frank, I was serious.

I think some 10-foot James Madison satire is in order.

  8. Double your pleasure, double your height!

  9. TM says:

Caught this on the hburgblogs feed over the weekend. Every story was spot on. It’s just what this city needs. Looking forward to a lot more.

  10. Renee says:

    Great idea :)

Gxeremio and I were at a friend’s house a few evenings ago. I was discussing ideas for April Fool’s Day stories on hburgnews, and he came up with the name and idea for Crocktown.

Why only make fun of local news once a year?

  12. sarah says:

    Brilliant!

  13. Ex'burger says:

The Elkton post is my favorite so far.

  14. Gxeremio says:

Actually my wife Linz was the intermediate brain behind it – when we started talking about April Fools’ Day ideas, she said we had so many we should make a blog out of it. So big props to her.

If anyone is interested in becoming a contributing writer, email me at gxeremio (at) gmail (dot) com.

  15. Christa says:

It’s just what we needed. It’s wonderful!

  16. JGFitzgerald says:

Fie upon you, Gxeremio. I had things I needed to get done.

  17. Elkton turning itself into East Rockingham is funny. Thanks for that. I’ll check back later for more smiles.

  18. HA. Okay the meeting of Bergton Democrats story is a hoot. Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap (etc).

  19. I am hereby laughing aloud a lot over today’s Crocktown matter. The JMU -> RMH -> WalMart diagram is a gem.

  20. Annie Hololob says:

    Dear Crocktown,
I think I love you, as much as I love a frat boy free night at Luigi’s, a cocktail poured by Beth at the Dodger, a parking space on the court square where Barb Goins can’t ticket me and any downtown event that the HDR doesn’t sponsor. Thank you, I have been wondering where you were all my life.
    Heart,
    Annie

crocktown.com got a mention in this month’s eightyone — in the ‘hindsight’ section.

  22. Barb says:

    Dear Friends, Happy Fool’s Day!

After Adam was created, there he was, all alone, in the Garden of Eden.
Of course it wasn’t good for him to be all by himself, so the Lord came down to visit.
“Adam,” He said, “I have a plan to make you much, much happier. I’m going to give you a companion, a help mate for you – someone who will fulfil your every need and desire. Someone who will be faithful, loving and obedient. Someone who will make you feel wonderful every day of your life.”
Adam was stunned. “That’s sounds incredible!”
“Well, it is,” replied the Lord. “But it doesn’t come for free. This is someone so special that it’s going to cost you an arm and a leg.”
“That’s a pretty high price to pay,” said Adam. “What can I get for a rib?”

    Happy April Fool’s Day!
