Cargill Buys Willow Brooks Foods

Cargill announced today that it has purchased Willow Brook Foods, a meat processor based in Springfield, Mo. WB is also involved in turkey production, and includes 3 plants and about 1200 employees.

According to today’s press release, Cargill will continue to operate Willow Brook’s feed mill in Butterfield, Mo., and its Albert Lea, Minn., Schweigert Foods cooked meat operation. CVAM will take over Willow Brook’s leases of a slicing facility and a distribution center in Springfield.

Cargill plans to lease Willow Brook’s two plants in Springfield. Over the next 6 or so months, Cargill planss to move capacity from Springfield to its existing plants in California, Mo., and Springdale, Ark. The two plants in Springfield will close. CVAM will encourage Willow Brook employees in Springfield who are affected by the closings to apply for jobs at California and Springdale. For those who choose not to relocate, Cargill will provide outplacement services, and for appropriate personnel, Cargill will provide severance packages.

    For the severance package, who would the appropriate personnel be? Would that be someone who has worked there for a period of time? If so, how long?
