84 Lumber closed
posted by finneganThe big news story yesterday and today seems to the the announcement from 84 Lumber: they say they are closing their Harrisonburg operation (along with many other locations) because the housing market has slowed. 84 Lumber also said that the local store was small and outdated.
Is this indicative of the national “sub-prime crisis,” local housing market, or the management at 84 Lumber?

The DNR article says 6 people are left jobless. 6 people seems pretty short-handed to me.
Also, Stoneburner is burning? Very interesting.

Judging by the experience my friends and family have had there, the service STUNK! Aloof, bad service + a building slowdown = business shutdown.

I liked 84 lumber because the prices on raw lumber were good, but the selection was limited. The staff was very freindly. Suposedly, they supplied mainly professionals (as opposed to us DIYers) and with homebuilding slowing down, it was taking a toll. I think it’s our local market.
