Manhunt near Elkton Middle School

Brent Finnegan -- May 7th, 2008

I’m seeing reports of a manhunt near Elkton Middle School. Reportedly, two shots were fired, and the middle school is on lockdown as police search for the injured gunman.

UPDATE: A man “with a history of mental issues” fired two shots during a domestic dispute, and was apprehended by police a half-mile east of Elkton Middle School.

    From TV3:

A Rockingham County man was apprehended Wednesday afternoon near Elkton Middle School after reports were made saying he was running around with a gun.

The school went on lockdown for nearly an hour while police searched for the suspect.

With the help of several K-9 dogs, police were able to find that man in a nearby creek, and they also confiscated his gun and several shell casings.

It started out as a domestic situation where the suspect made threats to harm himself, as he was armed with a revolver. When police arrived, he ran.

The K-9 units helped locate the man, and the Rockingham County SWAT team caught him in a creek bed about a half a mile from the Elkton Motel.
