Curt new state GOP finance chair
Brent Finnegan -- June 9th, 2008
From the Post – Rockingham County resident Walter Curt has just been appointed finance chairman of the Virginia Republican Party.
Curt, an anti-tax activist with close ties to the conservative wing of the party, has given nearly $800,000 to GOP candidates in Virginia since 1997 [...] In 2007, Curt and his company were the single biggest donor to Robert Sayre in his bid to unseat Sen. Emmett W. Hanger Jr. (R-Augusta) in the GOP primary.
I’m guessing Hanger isn’t too happy about that. Thanks to the reader who brought this to my attention.

So the lunatic fringe of the Virginia Republican Party will have a very nicely appointed motor coach as they ride into the abyss? The “No Tax Express”?
Seriously, Republican candidates will have two choices – vote the Curt way, or do it alone. Those that can’t self finance will start sounding as loopy as Jim Gilmore, as they seek to stuff 20lb of baloney into a 5lb bag. I’m just wondering whether the RPV will now finance internal opposition candidates – like Curt did against Hanger.
I concur with Bubby’s comments.
of course the irony is that Curt made his money through government contracts. so he’s really an anti-tax except when it makes me rich activist
This is great!!! As a progressive can we want anything else? The VA repubs have been in a downward spriral since the last state election!! This is desperation that only serves the progressives because Curt is such a right-wingnut.
This appointment will be a national embarassment (which by now VA GOP should be used too), and is probably one of the reasons why the Obama camp think they can take VA in Nov!
What’s that saying?……give them some rope and they will…
I know that it is politically correct to denounce sterotypes but I must say, the VA GOP certainly go out of their way to perpetuate their ignorant, racist, scared, selfish, hypocritical, uneducated sterotype.
I’m not sure why the yahoo VA GOP enjoy the national embarassment, but maybe it has something to do with the same pathetic psychy that makes white trash go on the Jerry Springer Show just to get attention.
I apologize….the first line of the 4th paragraph should read….”I know that it is politically INcorrect to denounce…..”
You give the Republican Party of Virginia too little credit. They have resurrected Gilmore as their champion – the man who single-handedly destroyed local funding of public safety and services then tried to fix it by taking the money from higher education. It never added up, and resulted in a $6 billion dollar hole in the budget by the time Gilmore’s ‘economic policy’ had time to take effect. Now they’re ready to sell working Virginians on “local funding” of transportation. And they have selected a mega-rich anti-tax dude to take the advertising dollars from the faithful. It is a bold effort.
Wow – the RPV has really done it this time; it’s a bold effort all right. Say goodbye to any African American support.
