fuel, bagels & potatoes

WMRA’s Martha Woodroof recently did a story on the impact of rising fuel costs on Mr. J’s Bagels, Red Front produce, and other businesses in town.
[Mr. J's] Deli has had to slightly increase its prices twice in the last year. Angela Hughes, manager of the Mr. J’s on East Market Street, says they had no choice.
“The price of flour has increased I’d say a good forty percent from [this] time last year. It’s gone up [to] as much as $30 for a fifty-pound bag. We were paying $19 this time last year.”
There’s also a story in today’s DNR about the impact of $5.49-per-gallon aviation fuel at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.

Mr. J’s is like gas: people just plain need it to get to work in the morning. Nothing will keep valley residents from their bagels.
