Copeland’s dream a reality
Brent Finnegan -- August 19th, 2008
There’s a story in today’s DNR about the opening of Our Community Place.
About 75 people – a hodgepodge of volunteers, the needy and homeless folks – chowed down on sloppy joes, corn on the cob, stewed tomatoes, onion rings, squash casserole and garlic bread.
Those that know Ron Copeland, formerly the man behind the Little Grill, know that he’s been working on this project for years and years.

“I kept hearing a voice in my head that kept saying, ‘If you promise never to smoke pot again, you can have that building.’ … It was hard. I really liked to smoke pot,” Copeland said.”
Classic Copeland, I love it.
A calculated and elloquent spokesman, Ron’s not. But he’s done more positive things for the Harrisonburg community than most well-to-do politicos.
Congrats, Ron.
It’s been a long time in coming. No one else could have had that vision and pulled it off. Congrats, Ron!
Not to mention the hundreds of other people who have contributed to this project.
Doesn’t this story just warm the heart? What a wonderful, and much needed, addition to the Harrisonburg community. Congratulations, Ron and friends! Way to go!!
yeah! i’m looking forward to lots of cool community events. congrats to all the volunteers, donors, lgc people and Ron. The community thanks you.
I’d say he’s quite calculated and eloquent, Finn. He’s just not afraid to speak his mind in the same way a politician or normal pastor might be.
Yeah, that’s what I meant. He just doesn’t seem interested in PR strategies.
I remember Ron from the open mic nights of yore (circa 1996). He would get up in front of everyone and rant and ramble about the government or whatever was on his mind. It was usually pretty entertaining.
