Alleged Home Invader Arrested

The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) has made an arrest in a recent home invasion. According to a news release by Mary-Hope Gangwer, Public Information Officer, Police have arrested Raymond Hamilton III, 18, of Harrisonburg Friday September 26. Mr. Hamilton turned himself into police after being sought for his role in the invasion.
On September 24, 2008, two males broke into an apartment at 202 Governors Lane and assaulted a female victim who presumably resided at that address. They then ransacked her apartment.
Mr. Hamilton is charged with attempted robbery, wearing a mask, assault and battery, abduction, breaking & entering, and property damage.
“The investigators continue to investigate this incident,” said Lt. Kurt Boshart, Criminal Investigations Division Commander. “The investigation will determine the level of involvement of the second suspect and dictate if charges will be placed.”

According to Mary-Hope Gangwer, the female victim is the resident of 202 Governors Lane. Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Hamilton at some point Friday morning and he turned himself in later that evening. Ms. Gangwer attributed “excellent investigative skills” and expeditious followup on multiple leads as the reasons for such a quick arrest. Mr. Hamilton’s court case is set for November 11, 2008 at 10:00am.

- BURGLARY NIGHT TO COMM FELONY (18.2-89) – Class 3 Felony
- ATTEMPT TO ROB (18.2-58) – Class 4 Felony
- ABDUCT BY FORCE/INTIMIDATION (18.2-47) – Class 5 Felony
- WEAR MASKS IN CERTAIN PLACES (18.2-422) – Class 6 Felony
- ASSAULT (18.2-57) – Class 1 Misdemeanor
- DESTRUCT PROP W/INTENT <$1000 (18.2-137) – Class 1 Misdemeanor
If convicted of all charges, Mr. Hamilton would face a minimum of 9 years and a maximum of 47 years in prison. He could also be fined up to $210,000.
