Gilmore winning? What a supreme testament to the extraordinary ignorance of appalachia. The county needs to conduct retirement advertisement in the north to recruit good, intelligent people who actually contribute to society.

I’m actually really surprised that Imeson isn’t winning because 1) I’ve seen so many signs for her, 2) she’s considered a very local and familiar face, and 3) she’s a Republican, which doesn’t hurt around here, though that last one is changing, as we’ve seen.

The reaction to this election has been very heated and passionate and I expected that. I expected to disagree with people and move on. I respect a person’s right to their opinions and in most cases I will agree to disagree as long as someone is respectful to me. I also think that private business owners have the right to speak out about their choices. I also hope that when doing so, they realize that they may lose customers.
At least one local business lost my business for good this evening.
I can respect their choice to speak their peace and I hope they can respect my choice to never set foot there again.

While I understand where you are coming from please ensure that you only boycott store owners that personally offend your sensibilities through rudeness or hatred and not just for expressing love for their candidate (I’m preaching because I had people boycott/express hatred my store for going to the Obama rally, sorry if I’m a little sensitive).

Myron,
It was not Jim.
David,
I wouldn’t boycott a business just for liking their candidate, because I know they passion I had for mine. I didn’t consider this passion for a candidate.
I’m not going to say the store by name on this blog because I don’t want someone else to form an opinion just by reading my little vent. I respect the owner for deciding that his beliefs mean more to him than customers. That takes guts.
Sorry, I’m just tired and emotional and let something get to me this evening that I shouldn’t have.
Comment from David Miller

Comment from Emmy
Time: November 5, 2008, 7:54 pm
Myron,
The business I was referring to was not his. However, I do not find it even in the least bit funny to make the jokes he did. Blatant racial slurs are not amusing.
If you had been there you wouldn’t have been happy either because he said something that he got after you for saying.
Comment from republitarian
Time: November 5, 2008, 8:03 pm
When someone says something to get you going you have to realize they just said it for that reason.
It’s kinda funny. One of the gilrs that comes in there frequently said yesterday that she wouldnt be surprised if he got assassinated.
Neither she, or I, said we hoped it would happen, but there are crazy people out there.
You gotta take stuff like that with a grain of salt.
I’m glad you can recognize that you’re just being emotional…..
Comment from Emmy
Time: November 5, 2008, 8:08 pm
Yes, I was being emotional. But the business I mentioned above will not get my business and I do not care what the jokes at the other business were meant to do. It wasn’t funny. Assasination humor is not humor. I’ve taken it with several grains of salt, but that doesn’t mean I think it was right.
Comment from republitarian
Time: November 5, 2008, 8:37 pm
Emmy, there was never any “assassination humor” by me or this girl. We were simply stating that there is that possibility because of some peoples’ views towards others of different races.
If I suggested that a couple of religious muslim fanatics would fly planes into the Twin Towers or suicide bomb a movie theater doesn’t mean it’s humor…it simply means it could happen.

Watchman,
What exactly are you watching? And is your characterization of bloggers accurate in a general or a specific sense? That is, does it apply to you automatically because you blog, or are you somehow non-feminized because of, presumably, your racist, redneck views? I am trying to be incisive here in order to avoid seemingly shallow analysis. Please advise.

Among the things I won’t miss while not blogging, petty arguments like this, trolling, and “gotchas” are at the top of my list.
I think most of us have seen what unregulated comments look like. It’s ugly and unpleasant enough to turn lots of readers off. Call it censorship if you must. I like to think of it as cleaning up after some else’s dog. I don’t want to see it, smell it, or step in it, so I clean it up.
Comment from Christa
Time: November 6, 2008, 11:06 am
The analogy that if you ignore someone’s comments, they will quit posting is probably a good one. However, I find it hard to do that with certain people and certain comments. It may very well spark anger and heated discussions(and yes, name calling) but sometimes people just need to be called out. I will refrain from “calling” people out and apologize for sparking a negative discussion.
