A little more transparency

Brent Finnegan -- January 15th, 2009

As Kai Degner pointed out on his blog yesterday, “all the supporting documentation for agenda items that City Council members receive in their packets prior to a meeting are now available to citizens via download in PDF format.”

What used to be a one or two page agenda is now dozens of pages long. This means bigger PDFs, a lot more information, and a little more transparency on city business matters. Degner encourages “the media, bloggers, and citizens to use this as a primary source of information moving forward.”

Thank you Mayor Degner. This is an excellent use of available technology and I sincerely appreciate being able to access this type of information without a trip to the Municipal Building. Also, the sound quality of televised council meetings has improved dramatically along with the awareness by council members that there is a wider audience.

Glad at least cc was paying attention, but I would still like to see R’ham County televise meetings. The county just did a major revamp of its board chambers and is in a much better technical position to televise the meetings.

How about web streaming meetings? You could sit at Panera Bread with your laptop and watch City Council or Supes in front of the fire place…now that sounds nice.
