Local Inauguration Viewing Locations
Renee -- January 17th, 2009
Here are the local University locations where you can view Barack Obama’s swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, January 20 around noon:
- James Madison University – Grafton Stovall Theater and Festival Ballrooms
- Eastern Mennonite University – Common Grounds Coffee House
- Bridgewater College – Cole Hall Auditorium
Know of others? Add them in the comments!

The Blue Nile will be open downstairs
Clementine Cafe is having an inauguration party in conjunction with the Harrisonburg democratic committee
JMU’s Memorial Hall (the old high school) will be showing the inauguration in the auditorium and on flat screens around the building (although those won’t have sound).
I would guess most people will be at work during that time.
Another location at JMU: Carrier Library’s Media Resources, room 16A (in the basement)

Just as a head’s up to everyone. I just spoke with both JMU and EMU, their events are not open to the public.
Actually, the public IS welcome to view on EMU campus at the following locations and times:
* Common Grounds: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
* Campus Center Greeting Hall: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
* Lehman Auditorium: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
* Science Center 106: 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
* Snack Shoppe/Royals Den: 7:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
See the link for campus map. All are welcome.
I work at EMU and just called up to the President’s Office (432-4100) to check if what John said was true. Apparently it was marked as “not open to the general public” in the events system, but that wasn’t their intention. They’ve corrected it now. The assistant to the president said, “we’re not necessarily promoting it to the general public but they are welcome.”

Sorry about the bad info. I was simply repeating what I was told over the phone by both parties. It’s good to see that the public really is welcome at EMU. I hope that if anyone else calls to learn more, they are not turned away.
@John: I think the switchboard was just going by the bad info on the website. Sorry about that. When I talked to them the President’s Office said they’d let the switchboard know, so hopefully everyone who called after we cleared things up found out that they’re welcome.
