Delays on 81 and 33 Thursday Eve

Brent Finnegan -- December 18th, 2009

You may have experienced the traffic or re-routing on I-81 or the Market Street overpass (exit 247) yesterday evening. There were even rumors that one of the bridges had collapsed. As it turns out, a truck carrying a crane smacked into the overpasses, taking chunks of concrete with it. Nothing collapsed.

Police started re-routing traffic at about 4:30. Those lanes of traffic had reopened by 7:00, after engineers were able to inspect the bridge for structural damage.
