DNRonline Hacked Again?

Brent Finnegan -- December 29th, 2009

It appears that the Daily News Record’s website has been compromised again. Two readers brought this to our attention this morning.

Search for Daily News Record“I tried to go there this morning and got the ‘this site has been reported as an attack site’ Firefox screen,” and “DNROnline is being blocked by my security software as an attack site seeking to install malicious code on my computer.”

This same sort of thing happened in September, when the DNRonline was infected with a Trojan.

(Thanks, Brooke and Joe)

  1. Brooke says:

My husband thinks it has to do with their website being primarily .php based coding, which is, apparently, rather susceptible to security issues.

  2. FWIW, hburgnews.com is also php, but is updated with security fixes every time a new version of WordPress is released.

In April, 2008, hburgnews was infected, primarily because I had been lazy about updating it.

  3. Maybe you should go work for the DNR as an online editor, Brent. Obviously, you are less lazy about the updates than they are. ;)

  4. Josh says:

Now that their site is a pay site, do they do any sort of pro-rated refunds for the time that their site is down, or if their site wreaks havoc on your computer?

  5. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
