MACRoCk 2010 Preview: The Highlights

Jeremiah Knupp -- April 1st, 2010

One day to MACRoCk XIII and here are some of the highlights of this year’s event:

Nelly Kate (shown at MACRoCk 2009) will perform at the Little Grill Saturday night.

The Music:
Andrew Cedermark: formerly of the acclaimed indie rock band Titus Andronicus, the Charlottesville-based Cedermark now showcases his talents solo.
Best Coast: California beach rock that’s coming straight from Austin’s 2010 SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival.
Here We Go Magic: another act that’s right off this year’s SXSW line-up. Their latest album received an honorable mention in Pitchfork magazine’s Albums of the Year listing.
Native: a post hardcore quartet from Indiana. Under the Gun Review called their latest album the most anticipated of Fall 2009.
Valkyrie: a Harrisonburg-based doom metal band. Guitarist Peter Adams also plays for Georgia rock band Baroness.

To compliment the music, Saturday afternoon will feature six panels and workshops before the evening’s shows start. The topics will be:
– Women in the music industry
– Cost-effective methods to record music
– How independent record stores and music labels stay successful
– Skate board culture
– Bicycling culture, safety and repair
– Printing your own MACRoCk t-shirt

  2. You are right. The Little Grill will have shows both Friday and Saturday night, but Nelly Kate will be performing on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Thanks for the correction. I amended the error in the caption.

  3. I’m planning to see Auld Lang Syne and The Extraordinaires.

Also, Preacher at the “Townrock” unofficial show at the Dodger, Friday around 8 or 9.

  4. danno says:

I’m not in town for it, but I’ll second the bands that Brent mentioned.. as well as Valkyrie.
