Lindsay -- April 14th, 2010

OCP press release promoting their 7th Annual Plant Sale and asking for plant donations

  • Saturday, April 24th, 10am-2pm
  • OCP is accepting donations of seedlings, cuttings, and divisions leading up to the sale
  • Our Community Works will be selling handmade garden structures

The 7th Annual Our Community Place Plant Sale takes place Saturday, April 24th between 10am and 2pm at 17 E. Johnson Street in North Harrisonburg.  All gardeners and other plant enthusiasts preparing for Spring . . clearing flower beds, dividing perennials, making cuttings, and wondering what to do with all those excess seedlings . . OCP finds happy new homes while raising much-needed funds for services they offer the community.  Donations, purchases, or swaps of beautiful plants can spruce up homes, yards, and flower beds.  Garden structures will also be available for sale, including trellises, window boxes, cold frames, and stackable compost bins, all hand-built by Our Community Works – a recovery and works program offshoot of OCP that provides good and meaningful work for our community’s homeless and otherwise unemployed.  Proceeds go to support their new farm in New Market.  The event will feature live music by an as-yet-unnamed musical act.  OCP is located at 17 E. Johnson Street, at the corner of Johnson and Main across from the Little Grill Collective.  Call Melaine 540.433.7738 or email ourcommunityplace@gmail.com with any questions–or if you’d like to help with the sale, make plant donations, or arrange a pick-up. Our Community Place remains a local 501c3 non-profit organization. Visit ourcommunityplace.org/events for more information.

Full disclosure:  Lindsay occasionally donates money to OCP.
