Thousands Preview New RMH

Brent Finnegan -- June 7th, 2010

Thousands of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County residents streamed through the halls of the new Rockingham Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon to get a glimpse of the recently-constructed, larger facility east of the city. Self-guided tours routed through all major units of the hospital lasted approximately one hour. (Disclosure: my fiancée works at RMH)

The ribbon is cut and the hallways are packed at the brand new Rockingham Memorial Hospital. According to hospital president Jim Krauss, it’s a day he’s been anxiously awaiting.

“To finally have the opportunity to show off our new hospital for the community is a great anticipation that’s finally come true,” Krauss says. (from WSHV)

An open house followed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and lasted throughout the afternoon. Halls were filled with heavy foot traffic as visitors previewed normally-restricted areas like the operating rooms and labs.

The event was held in anticipation of the hospital’s move from Cantrell to Port Road on June 22.

  1. The number one feature I noticed on the tour throughout was more private rooms. The ER looks a lot better (as far as ERs go). It has private rooms instead of curtains. Last time I was in the ER, there were screaming children and moaning patients, and all I wanted was some privacy and quiet.

The numbers are in…more than 6,000 people turned out for the RMH open house yesterday. Glad you got to come out, Brent!

  3. Brooke says:

It was great to see the new hospital! I hope to never have to be there, but it’s great to see the layout and know where everything is in case one of us does. It’s absolutely beautiful!
