A few additional local news items from this past week:
- Harrisonburg City Council considers a golf course committee to examine ways to increase revenues, cut costs, and develop a Heritage Oaks Master plan.
- A Harrisonburg man is charged with DUI Manslaughter
- Population decreases in the 6th district (which includes Harrisonburg and Rockingham county) could affect congressional district lines
- JMU tears down Theater 2

So if the 6th shrank, I assume that means it will have to be expanded geographically. With so much rural area bordering on the 6th, I can’t imagine a redistricting would possibly hurt Goodlatte.
The biggest issue for the Sixth is Roanoke. It belongs with SW Virginia in the Ninth. But to keep Goodlatte in the district, the city has to remain in the Sixth. Which means the Ninth has to go into the Fifth or into Tennessee.

Re: council and the golf course. The golf course management, designers, and planning folks did not do themselves any favors from day one: alienating most of the community by ignoring input, and not having long term plans for including a wider community base. Oh my, a small group of people can’t prop it up and pay for it now? Oh dear. Maybe the council needs to get the parks and rec reps to rethink a few design (including working with the bike path people) and community involvement issues now for the better of the whole city, not just a few.
