Early Morning Shooting on Kelly Street, Two Injured

According to an afternoon press release from HPD’s Mary-Hope Vass, the Harrisonburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened around 12:30 a.m. this morning, Saturday, September 5. Two men were shot in the 200 block of Kelley Street by an unknown suspect(s). Both males transported themselves to Rockingham Memorial Hospital. One male victim, 30, of Richmond, was shot in the arm, and has since been released from the hospital. The second male victim, 32, of Harrisonburg, was shot in the torso and transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he is reported to be in stable condition.  The names of the victims have not yet been released.

    anybody know why they don’t release the vic’s names in situations like this?

      Seth, I may be wrong, but I believe the victim’s name is not released immediately to protect that person from any more volence.

  2. In response to the shootings, Harrisonburg’s Northeast Neighborhood Association will host a Town Hall Meeting to propose solutions to make this, and all neighborhoods, a safe place to live this Thursday September 23 at 7 p.m. at Lucy Simms Center, located at 620 Simms Avenue in Harrisonburg.
    Guest speakers include Mayor Kai Degner, Vice Mayor Richard Baugh, Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Anthony Bailey, Harrisonburg Chief of Police Col. Harper, and Harrisonburg Police Department’s Lieutenant Boshart and Lieutenant Sites.
    This meeting is open to the public so please come.
