HDR Announces 2010 Poster Design Contest

Press Release -- October 21st, 2010

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance launched the third annual Picture Downtown poster contest. This student-only competition accepts 2-D artistic interpretations of downtown Harrisonburg to be judged by a panel of artists and Arts Council of the Valley representatives. The contest winner will have their artwork published and earn up to $1,000 by receiving 50% of the proceeds. Posters will be sold throughout the 2011 year at downtown events, in the Rocktown Gift Shop and other downtown locations. Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance will accept entries until November 19th and will reveal the grand prize winner during Holidays on Main Street on December 3rd.

“It’s great to watch the students come down with sketch pads and cameras, getting a closer look at downtown Harrisonburg” says Eddie Bumbaugh, Executive Director at HDR. This contest, along with other student-focused initiatives, help increase student exposure to Harrisonburg and is supported by the James Madison University’s Community Service-Learning. All college students can submit artwork, regardless of their major; painting, photography, graphic design or any other 2-D medium is welcome. As in previous years, a limited edition of signed prints will be auctioned off at the 2011 Renaissance Night, HDR’s annual fundraiser in May.

Examples of posters, rules and application forms, are posted on HDR’s website.
