Locally-Produced ‘Beardo’ Premiering at VA Film Fest
Press Release -- October 26th, 2010
“Beardo the Movie,” a documentary about the World Beard and Moustache Championships, has been accepted to screen at the 23rd Annual Virginia Film Festival. This screening will be the world premiere of “Beardo the Movie.”
Produced by DIGICO Shoot | Post | Design (DIGICO), a creative video and motion design firm based in Harrisonburg Virginia, and Jeff Tocci, “Beardo the Movie” was filmed on location in Alaska during the 2009 competition. “Beardo the Movie” talks to first-time and veteran contestants about facial hair in society, the WBMC competition and its aftermath. One-on-one interviews get behind the beards and reveal motivations, passions, dreams and the stigma of living in the modern world with beards and moustaches.
“We’re excited to get to share “Beardo” with an audience,” said Ryan Berry, DIGICO partner and producer/director of photography of “Beardo The Movie.” “Filming in Alaska, getting to know the competitors and hear their stories, I think viewers will be surprised by how open they are,” he said.
“I think people will watch because of the outlandish styles and looks, but there’s a lot of heart and thought from the contestants,” said Joey Groah, DIGICO partner and producer of “Beardo The Movie.” It’s great to have the premiere in our home state,” he said.
The Virginia Film Festival is presented by the University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. 2010 guests include Guillermo Del Toro, Tom Shadyac, Peter Bogdanovitch and others. For more information on the Virginia Film Festival visit VAFilm.com.
