Last week, six out of the seven members of the group who traveled from Harrisonburg to Davis, CA in March 2010 to learn about bicycle facilities traveled to Charlottesville, VA to give a presentation to Bike Charlottesville and the City of Charlottesville’s Mayor and staff members.
The March 2010 trip has been reported several times on hburgnews. Since March, the group has given presentations to City Council, to James Madison University’s Institute for the Natural World‘s Campus Accessibility Committee, and community presentations at the Blue Nile during Earth Week and at Court Square Theater during Bike Month.
Much has also happened in Harrisonburg since the March 2010 trip:
- The Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan Advisory Committee completed and City Council adopted the 2010 Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan in July,
- The City’s Transportation Safety & Advisory Commission, appointed by City Council, established a new Bicycle & Pedestrian Subcommittee to assist in implementation and achieving the goals of the Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan,
- The City installed 3 miles of new bike lanes (Park Road, Vine Street, South Main Street, Central Avenue) for a total of 7 miles in bike lanes in the City, and
- The City installed 1 mile of new shared lane markings (More information on shared lane markings).
