A fire on New Year’s Eve damaged the Cargill feed mill on the corner of Kratzer and Liberty in Harrisonburg.

According to a report in the DNR, the fire caused more than $100,000 in damages.

Most of the damage was contained to a storage area near a loading dock that held medical supplies for turkeys and chickens, he said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, [Deputy Fire Marshall Capt. Arthur] Miller said. Investigators are still determining the cause, although Miller said they believe the fire started in the loading dock area of the facility, which includes a feed mill, storage area and office space.

The cause is still under investigation.

The scene at the Downtown Chop and Grill was like a production set for “Emergency”. Lights, smoking flares, snaking hoses, firetrucks, half the City Police force cordoning the area…and a weird assemblage of people sitting in cars in nearby parking lots… watching. First Night became Fire Night.

Nothing says fun like a tall glass of whiskey with mayhem and flames next door. Thanks Responders!

Oh, Billy, you completely dated yourself with the “Emergency” reference. But *I* had a fun trip down memory lane with it! :-)
