TPM: Goodlatte Wants ‘Tax Code Termination’

Brent Finnegan -- January 4th, 2011

Talking Points Memo claims to have received a “dear colleague” letter that originated from Rep. Bob Goodlatte, calling for a page-one rewrite of the federal tax code.

If the letter is legitimate, Goodlatte plans to introduce The Tax Code Termination Act, which would abolish the Internal Revenue Code by 2016, and create a new tax system.

It has become abundantly clear that the tax code is no longer working in a fair manner for our nation’s citizens. 1. Unfortunately, Bob can “say” or “write” that he’s in favor of the abolition of the current tax code, but he has yet to back ANY IDEA TO REPLACE IT.

Until then, it’s just talk…and further evidence that after several years of prodding him to get behind the FairTax, it’s likely just time for Bob to get the hell out of Congress and let another citizen of the 6th District in there to replace him.

This guy knows exactly how to stay in office.

Bob’s effort to abolish the Federal Tax Code is a holiday tradition – he pulls it out every year like a big firecracker, and the grown-ups in Congress tell him to quit screwing off and put it away. This kind of distracting political buffoonery is what you get from a guy whose base elected a dead Republican.

  4. I agree with Bubby 100%.
