Friendly City to Host Local Foods Happy Hour

Press Release -- January 5th, 2011

Friendly City Food Co-op is partnering with the Harrisonburg Farmers Market and Ryan Zale, Executive Chef of the Local Chop and Grill House to host a tasting of winter-friendly foods. This free Happy Hour tasting will be hosted at the Local Chop and Grill House on January 18, 2011 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. There is also wine pairing available for $10. The event will highlight winter-friendly food items and will be accompanied by recipes to take home and information about local food and farms. Representatives from Friendly City will also be on hand to discuss joining Friendly City or to answer questions about the upcoming opening of the downtown grocery store.

Friendly City is a cooperatively owned, democratically-run business that will open a full service natural food grocery store in downtown Harrisonburg. The store will promote the relationship between the food we eat, the health of the earth, and our own physical well being. Healthy, wholesome foods, organic produce, and environmentally sound, fairly traded products will be emphasized. Whenever possible, they plan to buy produce and items from local farmers, orchards, bakers, and members of the local community, thereby supporting local farmers.
