HPD and HFD Conducting Death Investigation

The Harrisonburg Police Department and the Harrisonburg Fire Department continue investigating the death of a male.

At 2:20 p.m. today, police received a call requesting a welfare check of an individual in the 2100 block of Reservoir Street. A second call was received at 2:50 p.m. for the report of a fire at the same residence.

There was evidence of a fire inside the residence that occurred sometime prior to the calls for service.

Archivaldo Marquez Romero, 62, of Harrisonburg was found dead inside his residence.

Both agencies are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of this individual.

  1. HPD update on this investigation from this afternoon:

    “It was determined that Archivaldo Marquez Romero, 62, of Harrisonburg died of smoke inhalation.

    The remainder of the investigation will be handled by the Harrisonburg Fire Department.”
