Westover Pool Vandalized, Closed For Repairs
Brent Finnegan -- April 13th, 2011
Westover Pool, located at the Cecil Gilkerson Community Activities Center in Harrisonburg, will be closed until at least seven in the morning on Thursday, April 14.

The entry doors were damaged early Tuesday morning after trespassers cut a slit in the pressurized pool dome, entered the facility and attempted to exit through the main entrance doors, the Harrisonburg Public Information Office explained in a statement. The doors appear to have been kicked in, and were severely damaged.
Lee Forester, Director of Parks & Recreation, said that the doors that help keep the white dome pressurized are a specialty item, and that’s why the pool is expected to remain closed through Wednesday.
The repair is expected to cost the city at least $5,000. Harrisonburg Police are investigating the incident.
The white dome over the pool was scheduled to be removed at the end of April, and remain uncovered throughout the summer season.

people suck
We need to bring back the stockade, so we can beat certain classes of criminals. That’s a public facility my family and I have NO PROBLEM paying the higher County resident user fees for.
You’re right David…people suck.
Some people suck. A few aberrations… People who do such things, suck.
People overall though, are good, caring, respectful and responsible.
The amendment has all sorts of daytime exemptions built in: public/private school events, construction (of course), lawn mowers, church bells, political gatherings (protected under the First Amendment), special events that have been granted permits, etc.
This is just terrible. It’s a shame that this sort of thing happens here. I would
be interested to know what the motivation was behind this. Just for fun? Really like to
find out who was responsible. Do they have cameras set up around the facility?? Talk
about a waste of money though, totally unnecessary.
sorry bout the accidental post, first part wasn’t part of this comment, was a reply for somthin else!
