hburgnews.com was founded in July 2006 to serve as an independent, alternative news source for the online community in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. This site stopped publishing on a regular basis in the summer of 2011.

From 2006 to 2011, we have broke stories, helped to educate voters, fostered discussions, and filled gaps in local news coverage. Our mission was to bring the residents of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County the most important and interesting local news stories of the week.
In 2010, we reorganized as an L.L.C. Although we had underwriters and a core editorial and management team, we were still a volunteer organization after becoming an L.L.C. Journalists who wrote special reports we published got paid by the hburgnews community through Spot.Us.
We did our best to make hburgnews.com Harrisonburg’s sustainable, community-driven news network. Unfortunately, our efforts could not be sustained past 2011.
