republitarian archives zapped… again

Before hburgnews, there was another very active blog in the area; republitarian.com. Yesterday, republitarian.com’s creator, Myron Rhodes, wiped out everything he’s posted, along with contributors Dave and Christa’s posts.

clarification

Last week, Dave Briggman posted some confusing and potentially misleading information on republitarian.com about hburgnews. I probably shouldn’t bother, but here it is anyway, in case you were wondering:

enough.

AFP podcast

If you want to hear me bumble on like an idiot, check out the latest Augusta Free Press podcast. I’m the second of three interviewees.
The general idea is that every once in a while, Chris Graham will have me on the podcast to give an “audio digest” of some of the issues and discussions on [...]

It’s Finnegan’s Birthday.

hburgnews on The Augusta Free Press Show

In July, Chris and Crystal Graham of The New Dominion launched a second podcast called The Augusta Free Press Show.
Yesterday Chris interviewed me about hburgnews via telephone. It’s about two-fifths of the way through the August 1 episode.

blog ratings

Apparently the words “kill” and “crack” appear here too often for hburgnews to be rated G.
This is part of some gimmicky ad campaign on a dating website, but I saw it on JohnLL’s Valley League blog, and thought it would be fun to see what a few of the local blogs are rated, according to [...]

hburgnews turns 1

That’s right. A year ago today I launched this blog. I wasn’t sure how long it would last, but I’m pleased to see that people have discovered it.
Currently there are nine active or semi-active contributors (including myself). In the next year, I’d like to see that number increase. I hope more local news hounds [...]

citizen journalism from H’burg to Korea

Being the admin of this news blog, I think a lot about the term “citizen journalism” and what that means exactly. Other than the career versus hobby aspect, what is the ultimate difference between a news blogger and a journalist?
A recent story on AlterNet.org explores that very topic. In Korea. Much to my surprise, Harrisonburg [...]

blogger get-together

Thanks to everyone who showed up at Dave’s Taverna this evening, and thanks to Christa Gitchell and Emmy (writergirl) for taking the initiative. It was great to meet everyone. It’s hard to believe, but before tonight, I had never met writergirl or TM in person. Even Arin Sime, Libertarian candidate for the 24th was there. [...]

introducing Harrisonburg Blogs

One of the problems with starting a blog is that no one reads it. It took a while for people to find out about hburgnews, and there were several times I wanted to quit because the hits were so low. Was anyone even reading it? Enter the aggregator.

Hburgnews blog party!

I’m going to call it a party so that we all remember that this is supposed to be a fun evening of getting to know each other and respectful discussion.
When: Tuesday June, 12th 5:30 pm until about 8:00 pm
Where: Dave’s Taverna rooftop (weather permitting). If its raining we’ll be inside.
Please let us know if you [...]

hello, world

Having installed Google Analytics a while ago, I’ve become aware that there are regular hburgnews readers spread out across the continent. Most readers are checking in from Harrisonburg, Rockingham, and Augusta. But I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello to readers elsewhere in the state, and the world…

Finnegan creates a winner

Instead of burying the information as the 34th post in a possibly exhausted thread, why not put this at the top?
Nineteenth most influential.
I don’t mean that you should put it here to brag, Finnegan, but rather to extend an opportunity to those who might want to expand on the meaning of this ranking.
