Bill would allow concealed guns in restaurants
The Virginia Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would remove the restrictions prohibiting gun owners with concealed carry licenses from carrying in restaurants and would allow police officers to drink while carrying.

The Triggerman & The Death Penalty
Yesterday news broke that the Virginia Senate Courts of Justice Committee had voted down Sen. Mark Obenshain’s proposed repeal of the so-called “triggerman” law. Obenshain’s bill would have made accomplices to murder eligible for the death penalty in Virginia.

ICE Arrests 12 In Harrisonburg Area
Last Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of dozens of unauthorized immigrants and fugitives wanted for various criminal activities. The operation netted 36 people statewide; 12 arrests were made in the Harrisonburg area.

General Assembly In Session
General Assembly is back in session in Richmond, and Sen. Mark Obenshain and Del. Matt Lohr have introduced some familiar-looking bills. HPD: Fewer Burglaries in 09
The HPD says there were 26 percent fewer (reported) burglaries in Harrisonburg in 2009 than in 2008. Here are the numbers they announced today:
2007 –- 264 burglaries
2008 –- 254 burglaries
2009 –- 187 burglaries.

Jones Sentenced
It’s been almost a year since Sherry Anderson was killed by a drunk driver while jogging on Main Street. Today WSVA reports that Bethany Jones, the driver, received a 12-year (suspended) prison sentence.
