I attended today’s Harrisonburg Summits (hosted by Mayor Kai Degner) along with about 200 other participants. The summit’s focus was sustainability. Specifically; How do we meet the needs of the present “while preserving the ability of future generations to meet their needs?”

During the past several months, tens of thousands of Americans have been jumping on yet another social media bandwagon: Twitter. The number of “active users” of the microblogging service has grown 900% in the last year, according to Twitter co-founder, Biz Stone. The effect of that growth can be clearly seen in the Harrisonburg community.

The Twitter feature hasn’t been working for some time. Yesterday I created a workaround: an hburgnews hashtag. Here’s how it works: Anytime anyone with a Twitter account sees news happening in or near Harrisonburg, include #hburgnews somewhere in your update. It will show up in the sidebar of hburgnews. That’s it. Pretty simple, huh?
