Kaine announces cuts, JMU down $5.4 million

Today Governor Tim Kaine announced sweeping budget cuts in the Commonwealth for the 2009 fiscal year, including a $5.4 million reduction at James Madison University.
JMU had originally been appropriated nearly $84.3 million, and will now work with $78.9 million.

Veterans Memorial Stadium Demolition Monday, Sept. 22

HARRISONBURG - Demolition of Veterans Memorial Stadium at the former Harrisonburg High School will begin at noon on Monday, Sept. 22. The aging facility will be replaced by a new softball / baseball complex but will retain the Veterans Memorial Stadium name.

Southbound Main St. closed Thursday

First it was May 5, then it was bumped back to May 12. Today, JMU announced that southbound traffic on S. Main Street between Cantrell and Bluestone will be rerouted to High Street beginning this Thursday, May 8. It will remain closed throughout most of the summer.

Traffic detours planned to begin today on S. Main Street have been delayed by one week, according to a statement released by James Madison University this morning.

JMU’s centennial class concludes commencement ceremony

Thousands of students and parents filled the campus of James Madison University Saturday for the Spring commencement ceremonies, pushing JMU’s all-time graduate count over 100,000 since it was founded on March 14, 1908.

JMU’s East Campus Library nearing completion

James Madison University’s East Campus Library, one of several construction projects occurring on campus, is nearing completion. The $31 million project, which broke ground in September 2006, was designed by architectural firm The Design Collective, of Baltimore, Md., and built by Nielsen Builders of Harrisonburg.
