Emmy, will doing yoga help a person lose weight?

Comment from Emmy
Time: November 18, 2008, 6:07 pm

I hope that was a question and not a dig at me.

Assuming it was a question, I believe it can. I can tell you that I really feel it now that it has been a few hours and I expect to be sore tomorrow. There are lots of different types and some are more geared towards the exercise aspect. It certainly helps with flexibility, balance and stress relief.

Yoga by itself generally doesn’t cause a person to lose weight directly, although over time the increase in muscle tissue will cause your body to burn more calories. I’ve heard that yoga also helps improve your ability to do other exercises (because of better strength, balance, endurance, and flexibility as Emmy mentioned), which would make other fat-burning workouts more effective.

I do short yoga workouts at home on my Wii Fit and find it to be a relaxing break from sitting at my desk working.
