The Friendly City Food Co-op announced on Facebook this morning that they have recently received another $100,000 in member loans, putting them at 75% of their community-financing goal, and prompting the board to sign the lease this month.

An upstairs water pipe broke this morning at Ragtime Fabrics in downtown Harrisonburg, causing major damage. When Midtowne Market closed their doors in January, you could almost hear a collective “nooo” issuing from downtown Harrisonburg. But the convenience store has been sold, and will soon be reopening under new management.

The annual “Taste of Downtown” event starts tomorrow, March 7, 2010, and goes on for a whole week this year (instead of just 3 days as it did in previous years), and includes sixteen participating downtown restaurants according to Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance.
