The U.S. Forest Service held a public meeting Tuesday in Verona to discuss possible revisions to their land management plan in George Washington National Forest over the next 15 years. The USFS is in the process of determining where companies may drill for natural gas using the controversial hydrofracturing, or hydrofracking method.
The energy company that had applied to drill for natural gas in Rockingham County says it’s moving on, reports Jeremy Hunt in today’s Daily News-Record. Representatives of Carrizo Oil and Gas Co. say the company is no longer “actively pursuing” a special-use permit to explore for natural gas in Bergton.

According to documents filed at the Rockingham County Courthouse in 2008, Tony Wilt, the Republican candidate for 26th district delegate, was one of many land owners in the Bergton area who leased land to gas and oil companies for natural gas exploration.
